John is one of those people you just want to hang out with. He is funny and has a great sense of humor. Most people when they first meet him are not sure if he is joking or serious, but they soon find out he is almost always joking around. He is the type of person that will do anything to help you out.

John has had a camera in his hand since he was young. He starting out shooting on his dad’s work Polaroid camera and would use up all the film. When in college he started getting into doing video and rented a camera to get footage of his ski trip to Steamboat, Colorado. While he still had the camera he and his younger brother Steve created a short video production of shooting a hockey puck into the oven. They set up the shots and created the in camera transitions to make it appear they actually did make the shot into the oven. He wishes he still had that footage.

One very important thing John’s grandmother Marie always told him, “Never stop learning”. He takes that to heart and pushes himself to continually improve his skills and encourages his kids to do the same. John went to college at Indiana State University and majored in Aviation Administration. Though when he graduated the job market was not good and ended up following in his father’s footsteps and became an Insurance Claims Adjuster. He then became very interested in Insurance Fraud Investigation. Since the company he worked for at the time did not offer this type of training he used his own vacation time and money to get certified. But something was still missing and he continued to pursue photography for fun. In 2004 he decided to go back to school and get his MBA from Anderson University. It was during this time in 2005 his parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and he decided he wanted to put together a photo montage of their 50 years together. This was the seed that started Northernlight Filmworks. The company started out as a hobby for John and Jen to do on the side but it quickly grew. John is one of the lead shooters and editors and is a huge advocate for everyone on the team to continually push themselves beyond their comfort zone and improve their skills.

John is also a photographer with a style leaning toward Lifestyle, Fashion and Landscape Photography. He has produced a number of commercial projects ranging from music videos, short documentaries, instructional video and commercial promotional video under their sister company Story House Media, which launched in 2012.

When not working,  John loves to spend time with his family, hang out with friends or just go exploring by himself. He gets true joy out of driving where ever the wind blows him and take photos. He loves hanging out at Lake Monroe on his boat with Jen. He is loves the outdoors and has had many adventures.  He enjoys craft beer, red wine and a good gin & tonic.  If Jen let him he would eat pizza, spaghetti or grilled cheese with syrup every day.
