I first met Lyssa 3 years ago when we filmed her sister Kaylee’s wedding. So of course I was over the moon to received an email from Lyssa letting me know it was her turn to get married. I set up a meeting with Lyssa and Dan to get the particulars about the big day. It would be our first time filming a St Elizabeth Seton wedding. While we love the houses of worship we film in over and over again, it is refreshing to film somewhere new. This would also be our first time filming at Piper’s at the Marott. When Dan and Lyssa came to meet with me, I could tell instantly they are a perfect match.
One thing that struck me when I met this family three years ago was their faith. They wear their faith on their sleeve and you know instantly how important it is to them. Lyssa and Dan’s wedding was no different in that sense and knowing the Mass was the most important aspect of their wedding. I love getting to know our clients and knowing what is important to them helps me tell their story. As with many of our couples we sat down with Dan and Lyssa on camera so they could help narrate their story. Not only did their interview guide the storyline, but the homily fell right into place as did Kaylee’s speech at the reception. I hope you enjoy Dan and Lyssa’s story. For me it shows two people faithful that God will revel his perfect plan for their life in his perfect timing. That perfect plan and timing came in the form of a Catholic dating site.

Northernlight Filmworks filmed a wedding for Danielle and Tim at a beautiful private ranch in Illinois. We learned from the couple that this ranch wedding would have special meaning for Danielle as she was the Nanny for the family for several years. We always love listening to stories of how our couples met and Tim and Danielle have a pretty cool story. One amazing thing is the number 1011. You will have to watch the film to learn why this number is special to Danielle and Tim.
This was a beautiful wedding all the way around. Congrats Danielle and Tim!
Jeremy and Emily had a beautiful Laurel Hall Wedding. You may remember their cinematic trailer we posted just a few weeks after their wedding. It was a very exciting, happy and emotional day.
The day, like many in 2016, started out very very rainy. The girls got ready downtown at the Omni Severin Hotel. It was such a chill morning and the girls sat around chatting with each other as they got their hair and make up done. Meanwhile the guys met up at Red’s Classic Barber Shop for hair cuts and shaves. They all headed for Laurel Hall to finish getting ready. The bridal suite at Laurel Hall is a gorgeous room overlooking the patio and lawn. The light coming in the windows is amazing. The guys got ready in the library and they enjoyed a game of cards while they waited. During this time the rain stopped, the clouds started to break up and peeks of sun began to shine.
Family is very important to Jeremy and Emily. For Emily, she is close to her dad and due to some health scares she did not know if he would be there to walk her down the isle. Knowing this we decided to mic her dad during the father daughter moment. And oh my goodness I am so thankful we did. That audio soundbite of when he turned and saw her was so moving and powerful, even though I have watched this probably a hundred times in the editing process I get chocked up and the tears roll down my face EVERY SINGLE TIME!
The ceremony took place in the upstairs chapel at Laurel Hall. The ceremony was very special because Emily’s brother was one of the officiants and he gave a beautiful sermon. Jeremy and Emily wrote their own vows in addition to the traditional vows. We love when couples are able to write their vows. While the traditional vows are wonderful, when couples can write their own it adds a special element and their personality to their wedding. One line that stood out from Emily’s vows, “We may not be perfect people, but we are perfect for each other”.
The reception was beautiful and the toasts so heartfelt. They ended off the night were a spectacularly dance party including glow sticks and colorful flashing glasses. I could go on and on about their day, but I feel their wedding film speaks more and encompasses their day better than I can write about it. Thank you Jeremy and Emily for having us capture your day and tell your story.

It was the perfect fall day for Christopher and Lia’s Traders Point Creamery wedding. Lia and the girls got ready in The Roost at Traders Point Creamery which over looked the lawn and garden area where they were setting up the ceremony. It was so fun seeing the progress of not only the girls getting ready but the progress of the ceremony site. Autumn of Isibeal Studio is so amazingly talented and watching the progress of her magic coming alive for the wedding is awe inspiring. I absolutely loved that Lia wore her mom’s wedding dress and had her grandmother’s diamond. It was so special for them.
Chris and the guys got ready downtown at the Westin. Once they arrived at Traders Point Creamery it was time for the first look. I am sure you will absolutely love their first look. The dock at the pond was the perfect location. Seeing how nervous Christopher was prior to the first look then how calm he got as soon as he saw her was magic.
The ceremony was beautiful and having Lia’s childhood youth pastor marry them made this ceremony extra special for them. This was the first time I have seen the braiding of the rope. This will be a beautiful piece hung in their home for a constant reminder of the commitment they have made to each other and keeping God in their marriage.
The Barn at Traders Point Creamery was beautifully decorated and of course Autumn’s floral design and the candles made it so romantic. The music of The Impalas had everyone danced the night away. Thanks to The Impalas for letting us plug into their board for the audio of the speeches.
We love working with our friends Cory + Jackie. We always know it will be an amazing day when we get to work together. And a special thanks to my friend Brian for coming and filming with me.

Miles and Marissa’s Columbia Club wedding was so beautiful. Just like many other weddings this year we were worried about the rain forecasted. I had gotten a text from Molly Connor the day before that she was going to get umbrellas just in case. Well it ended up we did not need them as the rain broke right before the first look. The audio of Miles seeing Marissa for the first time was priceless. We were able to get in their photo session as well around the circle before the black clouds rolled back in.
The ceremony took place on the first floor of the Columbia Club in front of the beautiful ornate glass windows looking out onto the Soldiers and Sailor’s memorial. Miles and Marissa’s ceremony was extra special because Miles grandfather was the officiant who married them. I always love special moments like that. After the “I Do’s” it was time to head up to the cocktail hour and reception. The reception took place on the third floor in the beautiful Crystal Terrace. It was such a fun party. Thank you Miles and Marissa for having us be a part of your wedding team to document your wedding day and create your wedding film.

Indiana Historical Society Wedding | Kevin + Michele from Northernlight Filmworks on Vimeo.
Kevin and Michele had a beautiful day for their Indiana Historical Society Wedding. This is their feature film and one we were honored to capture. You may have seen their trailer a few months ago. There were a few things that stood out to me at this wedding; first everyone was pitching in to make sure all the details were coming together and ready, second family is very very important to Kevin and Michele and their family was the center of their wedding, and third it didn’t rain. This year was a very wet and rainy summer, so having a perfect weather day was amazing.
When creating a wedding film I always look for the story. In this case the story revolved around their family and close friends. The story was told through those family and friends at the reception during their toasts. I especially loved the poem Michele’s father translated from a 19th Century Dutch Poet. It was so sweet how he used this poem to relate to marriage and how Kevin and Michele can use these wise words to strengthen and grow in their marriage.
Thank you Kevin and Michele for having our team there to document your wedding day. We wish you a long life time of happiness.

Indianapolis Artsgarden + Conrad Wedding | AJ & Taylor from Northernlight Filmworks on Vimeo.
AJ and Taylor’s Indianapolis Artsgarden + Conrad wedding was amazing. As you can see from their wedding film, family and friends are very important to them, and they have touched the lives of so many. We are very honored to have been able to capture and create not only their wedding day, but their story.
There were so many moments of the day that stood out, but I just keep coming back to the fun, laughter and love. We started out the day capturing the fun of the girls getting hair and makeup and ready for the day. The guys were a little more chill but still had fun hanging out and being goofy. Before the ceremony AJ and Taylor did their first look and we were able to capture some great shots of just the two of them. Next it was off to meet up with their bridal party in Tastings for a quick cheers before getting bridal party photos. It was such a beautiful and perfect day. Their ceremony was spectacular and my favorite part is their personal vows to each other. While traditional vows are so very important, when our couples write and read personal vows it makes their wedding just that more personal and really helps to drive the story line of their film. After AJ and Taylor were pronounced husband and wife, there was a fun surprise waiting for them. The chairs along the isle had confetti streamers. The reaction on their faces was priceless.
Right after the ceremony we moved back to the Conrad for the reception and all I can say is WOW!!!! The decor was amazing, the speeches were so heart felt (which was hard to pick just a few soundbites for their film by the way) and the party was so much fun. Thanks to Jessica Strickland for capturing that last confetti cannon surprise at the end of the night for us to include in their film. Again their reaction was priceless.

The day could not have been more perfect for John and Kaitlin’s Indianapolis wedding. It was a beautiful sunny day and for July it wasn’t unbearably hot like it could have been. Kaitlin and the girls started off their day at the Conrad downtown to get ready for the big day. John and his guys got ready at their new home in Indianapolis. The ceremony was at the beautiful North United Methodist Church just north of downtown and the reception was at the amazing Indiana Roof Ballroom.
John and Kaitlin’s story is pretty spectacular. They met just 3 years ago at the wedding for their mutual friends Billy and Jenna. They did not know each other prior to the wedding. At the reception, John, who was a groomsman for Billy, decided to approach Kaitlin. Kaitlin was a reader at the wedding, and she was on the dance floor. They hit it off from that moment on the dance floor and the rest is history.
It was a very happy and emotional day for everyone. Everything from Kaitlin’s special moment with her Mom before getting her dress on to seeing her Dad for the first time after getting in her wedding dress, to the emotion of both John and Kaitlin when seeing each other for the first time as Kaitlin walked down the isle toward John. It was hard for me (Jen) to keep back the happy tears for this amazing couple and their family. The speeches at the reception were authentic, from the heart, and impactful. The best part was the covert flash mob dance her sister Kristen planned, which John and Kaitlin were surprised with.
John, Kaitlin and the Hines and Pennington families, thank you for having us document and preserve this day for you.

Thompson Ranch Wedding | Tim + Danielle from Northernlight Filmworks on Vimeo.
This was an incredible location for a wedding on a private ranch in Illinois. This is just a teaser but their wedding film will provide the story of how they met, which is a great story. Tim and Danielle are so down to earth and we really enjoyed getting to know them. The site of the wedding had an incredible landscape view of parts of the ranch and was the perfect spot.

Kokomo Wedding Film | Dan + Sadie from Northernlight Filmworks on Vimeo.
We had the pleasure of filming Dan and Sadie’s Kokomo wedding. Sadie went to high school with our very own Felicia so she had been following our work for some time. We loved getting to know Dan and Sadie and learning about their story. It was a very unique story about how they met and the proposal. One of our favorite things about filming weddings is finding the story about the couple because each of our clients is unique and their story is not like anyone else.
Like many of our weddings this summer we kept our eye on the radar as we had a very rainy summer. Luckily it was just overcast all day, which is actually good for photography and video. It can be a challenge shooting in very bright sun. We were excited to see there would not be any rain for Dan and Sadie’s big day. The entire day was very relaxed and ran so smoothly. It was very sweet to see how Dan lights up when he looks at Sadie. The way he smiled as she was coming down the isle as she approached him was made me smile as I edited their film. Of course Sadie’s smile is contagious too.
Thank you Dan and Sadie for having us there to film your wedding and create your wedding film.
